The building has a north/south orientation with the roof opening to the north for an unobstructed view of the southern sky.  The roof is pulled along inverted v shaped rails by a chain-driven airplane hanger door opener.  The 16 x 18 foot roll-off room offers space for the swing of the telescope, two to three chairs, a work table and a storage cabinet.  A sliding glass window on the south side opens to allow the roof to move over the telescope safely.  A concrete column not attached to the second floor supports the telescope and prevents footsteps from disturbing viewing.  The column is capped by a 12 inch steel pier manufactured by Bisque.  There is a chain system for manual operation of the roof in the event of a power failure.  The views from the deck are spectacular!
